Out of the way and a bit difficult to find, but WELL WORTH THE EFFORT!! If you enjoy hanging with locals, this is the place to be.

Best Kept Seceret In Lahaina Maui. So the one negative reviewer must have been working for another local bar because hands down the Sly Mongoose is the most fun you will have in Maui. No you cannot see the ocean but if you really want to experience the Aloha Spirit of Hawaii and not feel like just another one of a gazillion tourists then the "Goose" is the place to visit. Without a doubt the Sly Mongoose is the "neighborhood bar" we all wish was in our neighborhood.

The Sly Mongoose. The Sly Mongoose is without a doubt the best bar in Lahaina. The people who work and hang out there are the some of the nicest people I've met anywhere! Even though my friends and I were tourists, we were welcomed into the "goose" with open arms. Of course it helped that we were single girls ready to party but what the heck? The Front street bars are fine if all you want to be is a "tourista". But the Sly Mongoose has real people and real drinks at good prices. Go there (if you dare) after you spend all your money on Front street. You won't regret it!

Great Local Spot. I travel to Maui every year, and one year my husband and I stummbled upon the Sly Mongoose. We now make it a regular stop on out itenary. As the above post mentioned, it is a local dive bar, but we enjoy the company of the locals after being around tourists all week. The best thing to do there, is ring the bell which signifies that you will buy a drink for the whole bar, I assure you that everyone will be your best friend after that!!

It's a local dive. Well, I guess it's all what you're into . . .

What it does have going for it is that, since they serve no food, they allow smoking. According to Hawaii's relatively new law an establishment which makes >30% of it's revenue from food must ban smoking. Not many places left where you can have a drink in one hand and a smoke in the other.

Their fridge looks like it came from a home garage sale.

It's back among the warehouses behind Pizza Hut.
