The Worst Ceviche Ever

by Bdanziger

I had the Ceviche after being told by my waiter how wonderful it would be. It turned out to be a vegetable based dish, with only very few pieces of a mystery white fish, no shell fish, and no discernable fish taste. It was more like a gazpacho, and appeared to be ketcup based. I had to ask for additional limes to cut through the gloppy ketchup and sweet tase.

I'd suggest you go to Eskimo Candy for local seafood Although it is not on the South Kihe road, It is only 3 blocks off the strip, and the seafood is fabulously fresh and incredibly inexpensive. You can eat like a King for less than $15.00

For other alternatives, The Tiki Lounge has great food, amazing Wings, and drink specials. And you just can't go wrong with anything at the Kihei Caffe. I've had breakfast there 3 of the 4 days that I have been here, and it only keeps getting better.

All my best,

Brian

Fish and chips at Pupu Lounge

by lalakitty

We went to Pupu Lounge for lunch on a Monday afternoon. It was a little warm, so they offered us a table closer to the air conditioner (towards the back of the restaurant). They weren't very busy, but most patio tables were filled. Our party was quite hungry, and the special was a fish and chips entree w/fries and coleslaw. I think almost everyone chose that. Our server had said it made with a local fish that was buttery on flavor (can't remember the name of the fish). He also mentioned the coleslaw was very good. When our food came, we were pleased to see an ample portion of food on each plate. The food looked very appetizing, not greasy, and smelled fabulous. Honestly, I think it's the best fish and chips I've ever had, and I wasn't alone in that assessment. It was cooked to a golden brown, crisp and light, and the fish was very fresh (from that morning), tender and flaky. The coleslaw was crunchy, and had the most wonderful, light and tangy-sweet dressing. There were also several of our number that commented the mai tais were pretty good as well (I didn't have one, so can't say personally).

Our server, Justin, was very nice and helpful. Granted, we were already in a good mood and hungry from a morning of kayaking and snorkeling. He was talkative, but not pushy or hovering. He let us enjoy our meal and kept an eye on us from the other side of the bar area.

If you're looking for a casual, fun place to get food, or hang out with some drinks and appetizers, this might be the ticket for you.

  • Pros: Nice, casual atmosphere, good food
  • Cons: None when we were there
